Root canal treatments are used to treat an infection at the root of the tooth by removing any infected dental pulp that might be present.
In some cases, we’ll be able to diagnose your need for a root canal treatment here at the practice before you even experience any symptoms. In other cases, you might experience a loose tooth, increased sensitivity, or pain with chewing or biting down.
We’ll put you under local anaesthetic, so you won’t experience any pain or discomfort during the treatment. A dental dam will then be placed in your mouth and a small hole will be formed in the tooth being treated. At this point, we’ll irrigate it before removing the infected dental pulp.
We’ll then fill in the hole with a temporary filling. This is so you can return to us at the practice for a follow up appointment, at which we’ll check to make sure all the infection has been removed. If this is the case, we’ll then apply your permanent filling.
